PANDEMIC SUCCESS STORIES

Nothing teaches as well as the voice of experience. So we asked Bohol’s own new mompreneurs on despite the pandemic was able to successfully establish a foodservice business.

We reached Kaye, the owner and founder of Kaye’s Homemade Mini Treats, a newly launched Boholano-pastry craze which offers order basis sweet treats. We asked her on how this business started and if it was a profession or a passion that she just stumbled upon during the long quarantine days.
“I actually have a corporate career as a life underwriter and this was what kept me busy for more than a decade. But because of the pandemic, my love for baking that was set aside for many years was brought back to life again when the ECQ happened. To distract myself from being anxious and worried, I kept myself busy at home in Chateau de Paz Subdivision by baking and experimenting recipes everyday. I had so many failed attempts but I never gave up until I perfected one, then to another, and eventually more products were created. One day, my husband encouraged me to start selling my products online. At first, I was hesitant because I don’t want to do stress baking since I am also homeschooling two preschoolers but he was persistent enough in convincing me to do so. By August 2020, I finally gave in thus the birth of my Kaye’s Homemade Mini Treats – my quarantine breakthrough.

Living in Chateau de Paz Subdivision gives me that feeling of security and safety. My kids can freely run and bike around the subdivision without worrying about busy and polluted streets. A good dose of fresh air is abundant too. The children’s playground is also very accessible which makes quarantine easy to adjust for my kids.”
Today, may it be for gifts, guest offerings or just to satisfy your palate during a relaxing 3:00 PM coffee or tea break, Kaye’s Homemade Mini Treats is surely a go to for you. Reach them through the Facebook Page  Kaye’s Homemade Mini Treats and Instagram account  kayeshomemademinitreats

Another Pandemic success that we were very excited to dig further on is Daphne’s, the owner and founder of Sushimax.

We’ve known Daphne having that entrepreneurial blood with the success and expansion of Genaros Grill, a restaurant in Bohol known for its sumptuous local cuisine and seafood offered at reasonable prices. But with the restrictions the town imposed on the tourism and hospitality industry, her business including their employees were among the many affected. How did she felt then?

Indeed, one of the concern really during that time was not only with regard to everyone’s safety but also that we had employees who we treat more like families since they’ve been with us far more than the years I can remember. When the announcement was made, I was thinking on how to keep the business running without having to retrench them.

So with sushimax, I found the concept of a baked sushi very appealing for gifts, special occasion that has to be restricted at home for the time being and of course for delivery. I had to develop my own version of the latest food trend at home so to help my employees who has taken cut in pay due to the pandemic. Having that on my mind, I experimented on bringing the taste close to identical to that sushi experience that the whole family enjoyed during a Japan travel years ago. On that afternoon I tried serving it on a small picnic at our Chateau de Paz Clubhouse and Pool area and my family’s reaction was splendid.

If you dreamt of traveling to japan but wasn’t able to do so because of this pandemic, this international taste will surely relive, if not, make you experience Japan here in the Philippines. Order yours conveniently through: (infinite bitly) (phone) (FB)

You never know what will happen, but if you start out with passion, enthusiasm, a lot of planning and attention to detail, you might just find yourself living your dream of being a success in the food services industry.
